Meet Daniel Templeton
Daniel Templeton has spent his life in emergency services, advertising photography, teaching at the collegiate level, and public service. From a very young age he enjoyed shooting and achieved the National Rifle Association’s Distinguished Expert Marksman Award in 1978. Since that time Templeton has achieved Distinguished Expert Marksman qualification in Pistol, Defensive Pistol I, and Defensive Pistol II.
Always excited to share what he loves, Dan became an NRA certified instructor in basic Pistol, Range Safety Officer, Personal Protection Inside the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, and Defensive Pistol. He is currently going through certification as a Modern Samurai Project Red Dot Instructor.
Throughout Dan’s professional careers and personal life, three words became repeating themes: Safety, Precision, and Speed.
Safety – It does not matter if you are coordinating a high risk rescue, handling a firearm, or walking through the grocery store, safety is paramount in approaching everything around you. Not only your safety, but the safety of everyone around you. While instructing firearms classes Templeton focuses on the safety of everyone constantly stressing to basic students fundamental safety, and reminding advanced students of the same. Working safely is not just for the classroom and the range, it is a way of life.
Precision – Accuracy and exactness. Precision is important in every aspect of handling firearms and shooting. From thinking through your kit, to visualizing in your mind the alignment of your sights between your eye and the target. Working out your grip and trigger press. Precision is not an automatic reflex, but requires thinking about everything you are going to do, and then doing it. This usually occurs slowly at first, but with training and practice your pace increases without sacrificing the precision that you have built.
Speed – We are not talking about moving fast and breaking things. Speed as we discuss it is not dawdling. Moving toward a point or solution rather than becoming indecisive. As precision becomes second nature, and your training and practice continues, you will naturally move faster, acquire your target quicker, and place shots on target in less time. If you want to compete in handgun combat matches speed is of the essence. If you want to carry a firearm for defensive purposes, more so. As you progress through your journey of shooting, you will continue to improve in your times. For those looking to excel in competition or train for defense private classes are available to assess your current level and help you to quickly bring your skill level up and your shot times down.
As you move through your training with Dan you will understand how each of these items works intricately with the others. The main goal is that by the end of your class you will become accurate, more importantly you will have fun, and most important you will be able to do these things safely.
